Position Overview:

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services at Colors of Austin Counseling. Our practice is an inclusive and affirming therapy collective serving the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities in Austin, TX. The PMHNP will work in coordination with our multidisciplinary team to offer comprehensive psychiatric services to adult and youth clients facing behavioral health challenges.

This position involves collaboration with an externally supervised psychiatrist through a Collaborative Practice Agreement established upon hire. Liability insurance and collaborating physician costs are covered by Colors of Austin Counseling. The PMHNP will work out of our office in Austin, TX, with the flexibility to offer in-person services initially and expand into telehealth services in the future to reach clients remotely.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide both in-person and virtual psychiatric services, seamlessly integrating with the care provided by our therapy team.
  • Conduct outpatient evaluations and medication management for adults and adolescents, billing a minimum of 20 sessions per week with in-house referrals.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat behavioral health disorders, prescribing and managing medications in line with the Collaborative Practice Agreement and Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and other team members to ensure comprehensive client care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Respond promptly to calls and emails, and participate in team meetings, consultations, and professional development activities.
  • Design individualized treatment plans, order necessary tests, and work with clients’ guardians and significant others as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and contribute to quality improvement and staff education.
  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in Texas with national certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from a recognized certifying body (e.g., ANCC).
  • Current prescriptive authority in Texas, including Texas DPS Controlled Substances Registration (CSR) and registration with the state Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP).
  • No suspension, exclusion, or debarment from participation in federal health care programs (e.g., Medicare).
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including a collaborating physician.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and clinical skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and telehealth platforms.
