Design Engineer I (Industrialization Focus)
The Design Engineer I (Industrialization Focus) is responsible for designing new products and implementing product modifications while ensuring efficient, robust, and scalable manufacturing. This role serves as a key technical liaison between Design and Manufacturing, optimizing products for manufacturability, production readiness, quality, and cost performance throughout the product lifecycle.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Design new components and implement product modifications aligned with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
- Lead and support the industrialization of new products and product changes, including validation builds, manufacturing readiness, and production ramp-up
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and Quality to validate and improve manufacturing processes
- Support production launch activities to ensure tooling, documentation, and processes meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives
- Manage product validation activities including testing, calculations, and analysis
- Participate in Design FMEA and Process FMEA to identify and mitigate risk prior to production release
- Lead and support engineering change implementation (ECR/ECO) while minimizing operational disruption
- Provide technical support and lead root cause analysis for product-related production issues
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturability, reliability, quality, and cost efficiency
- Support cross-functional teams including Applications Engineering, Sales, Sourcing, and Quality as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required
- 0–3 years of relevant experience in mechanical or hydraulic component design (minimum 3 years preferred)
- Experience with CAD software (Creo preferred)
- Experience performing stress calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Working knowledge of fluid mechanics and hydraulic circuits preferred
- Understanding of product design and validation lifecycle
- Familiarity with FMEA, structured problem‑solving methodologies, design‑to‑cost, and DFM principles preferred
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to travel approximately 5%
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
- Ability to stand and walk on the production floor as needed
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
- Visual acuity required to review technical drawings, CAD models, and test data
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to typical plant conditions including noise and temperature fluctuations
