assignment

most positions are assigned to work 3 or 3-1/2 hours per day, 5 days per week, 9-1/2 months per year.

summary of duties

independently organizes, operates and maintains a school computer lab for use by all staff and students, including non- or limited-english speaking students and special education students; plans and coordinates activities and materials according to lab schedule and class curriculum; prepares daily computer work assignments for each incoming class of students in accordance with teachers' lesson plans; trains and assists students in the proper and effective operation of computer hardware and video-assisted instructional materials and the application of educational software;

troubleshoots computer problems; performs a variety of record keeping and clerical duties and other related duties as required.

employment requirements

education: graduation from high school or its equivalency and one semester of college level course work in data processing, computer science or related field is required. An additional six months of technical computer operations experience may be substituted for the required education. In addition, one of the following educational requirements must be met: complete two years of higher education study, or obtain an associate’s or higher degree, or pass a formal state or local academic assessment that demonstrates knowledge of the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing and mathematics or reading, writing and mathematics readiness.

experience: six months of experience as an instructional assistant and six months of technical computer operations experience is required. Additional related education or technical computer operations experience may be substituted for the instructional assistant experience requirement. Any other combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge, abilities and traits may be considered.

examination

open/promotional with dual certification: the examination will consist of an assessment test, a written exam and an interview exam. The assessment test covers the following subjects: ability to assist in teaching students, reading vocabulary, reading comprehension, mathematics and language. You will be allowed to use a hand held calculator for the math test, however, you must bring your own. Calculators will not be provided.

The written test will evaluate your knowledge of computers and your ability to read and interpret operating procedures. The interview will evaluate your knowledge of: computers, basic instructional methods/techniques and child guidance principles/practices; student supervision and classroom management techniques; basic troubleshooting procedures; and ability to: establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; exercise good judgment; and keep abreast of changing computer technology.

Note:

if you have completed two years of higher education (48 semester units or 60 quarter units), obtained an associate’s degree or higher, or have passed the california basic educational skills test (cbest), you will not need to take the assessment test. Please submit a copy of your diploma, certificate or transcripts. Examination weights assessment test - pass/fail written - 25% interview - 75%

supplemental information

appointment candidates who pass the testing process will be placed on an eligibility list in rank order after promotional credits are added to the test scores of promotional candidates. Current employees must include with their application, verification of participation in professional growth training or continuing education within the last two years to receive promotional points. The top three ranks of eligibles who are ready and willing to accept the position shall be referred to the hiring administrator for interview.

All new employees are subject to passing a physical examination, tuberculosis test, background review and must provide satisfactory evidence of authorization to work in the united states.
