Senior Scientist and Lecturer in Novel Semiconductor Devices (60 - 100 %)
Are you interested in bridging the gap between fundamental research and application of novel semiconductor materials, and would you like to network internationally? If so, we invite you to join our team.
SchoolSchool of Engineering
Starting dateBy agreement. Part-time is possible. The position is initially limited to two years with the possibility of extension. If the cooperation is excellent, a permanent position is also conceivable.
Your roleYou will work actively in our research group and support the team leader in:
- Acquisition of research projects, also on your own responsibility
- Management and implementation of research projects
- Presentation and publication of research results
- Technical co‑supervision of PhD students
- Announcement and supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses
- Management of the laboratory infrastructure
In the mid‑term, you may also be involved in teaching by taking over physics or mathematics courses in the Bachelor’s/Master’s program.
Your profileYou hold a PhD in materials science, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline. You have several years of experience in applied research in novel semiconductors, proven by publication activities and project acquisition. Ideally, you bring complementary expertise to our team, which deals with the optoelectronic characterization and modelling of perovskite solar cells, among other topics. Your previous research activities should fit in here and might include: atomic force microscopy including electrical modes (cAFM, KPFM);
chemistry of novel semiconductor materials; structural and surface analysis of materials with electron microscopy or complementary and novel simulation methods. In addition to your enthusiasm for research, you are socially competent and a team player. You are interested in participating in teaching. You have a very good command of English and ideally also German. Experience in project acquisition and enthusiasm for writing project proposals are essential.
Ideally, you will have a network in the European research landscape and/or very good contacts with regional companies suitable for joint innovation projects in the field of novel semiconductors. Please enclose a brief outline of possible planned activities with your letter of application.
Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) is one of Switzerland’s largest multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences, with over 14,000 students and 3,400 faculty and staff. As one of the leading engineering faculties in Switzerland, the ZHAW School of Engineering emphasizes topics that will be relevant in the future. Our 14 institutes and centres guarantee superior‑quality education, research and development with an emphasis on energy, mobility, information and health.
In the Novel Semiconductor Devices Team at the Institute of Computational Physics, we research perovskite solar cells and other topics. Our expertise is optoelectronic characterization and modelling. Our research is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the European Research Council. ZHAW is committed to gender‑mixed and diverse teams in order to promote equality, diversity and innovation. To increase the proportion of women in management positions, applications from women are particularly welcome.
You Can Expect
We offer working conditions and terms of employment commensurate with higher education institutions and actively promote personal development for staff in leadership and non‑leadership positions. A detailed description of advantages and benefits can be found at “Working at the ZHAW”.
