Job Summary
The Shipping Clerk is responsible for coordinating, verifying, and processing outgoing shipments to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of materials and products. This role supports internal departments and external customers by preparing shipping documentation, arranging carrier services, maintaining shipment records, and ensuring materials are packaged and labeled according to company and regulatory standards.
Requisites
- Reports directly to the Department Lead.
- Regular, full-time position requiring a minimum in-office schedule of 40 hours per week; occasional travel may be required.
- Confidentiality, integrity, dependability, organization, attention to detail, continuous training, and cooperation.
- Valid driver's license, dependable transportation.
- Observe and comply with American Vulkan Corporation's (AVC) rules and regulations.
- Must agree to (and pass) a background check, physical, and drug screening testing.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience with Dangerous Goods and International Transportation preferred.
- Prepare and process shipping documentation, including bills of lading, work orders, shipping orders, and freight records, and compute applicable shipping, storage, or related charges using computer systems or pricing schedules.
- Verify shipment contents against manifests, invoices, and orders; record shipment data including weight, charges, damages, discrepancies, and space availability; and track in-transit shipments daily to provide delivery confirmation and reporting.
- Pack, seal, label, and prepare materials for shipment using appropriate tools and equipment in compliance with company standards.
- Coordinate with carriers to arrange pickups, determine shipping methods, routes, and rates, and issue delivery instructions.
- Communicate with internal departments and external representatives to resolve damages, shortages, or nonconformance issues.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe workspace in accordance with company policies.
- Cross training in Warehouse and Part Processing will be provided to ensure operational support when necessary.
- Proficiency in English language, including grammar, spelling, and composition, with strong communication skills in speaking, listening, reading comprehension, and writing.
- Microsoft Office 365 - Word, Excel, Outlook, Department-related software systems (ERP or shipping platforms).
- Standing, walking, lifting up to fifty (50) pounds, climbing, stooping, reaching, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- May require operation of industrial trucks, overhead cranes, hoists, hand tools, and power tools as authorized.
