MAJOR FUNCTIONGeneral maintenance and repair of machines and mechanical equipment required for County‑owned landfill operations. This includes leachate management systems (i.e., pumps, check valves, floats, level transducers, flow meters, air compressors) and landfill gas management systems (i.e., pneumatic or electric pumps, air compressors, electrical motors and blowers).
General maintenance and repair of diesel and/or gasoline‑powered landfill equipment, including off‑road rubber tire equipment and vehicles. Assists in troubleshooting, disassembling, repairing and reassembling components of all sizes and types involving the mechanical operation of the vehicles/equipment described above, to include preventive maintenance (i.e., oil and filter changes, lubrication).
ILLUSTRATED DUTIES- Assemble and set up machinery or equipment.
- Inspect and diagnose problems to determine the proper course of action to correct them.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts associated with the Leachate Management System (LMS) and verify availability.
- Maintain and repair mechanical equipment, such as pumps, check valves, floats, level transducers, air compressors that are associated with the LMS.
- Maintain records of LMS maintenance activities.
- Monitor control panels to ensure proper operation of the LMS.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, keeping detailed records of maintenance activities.
- Plan repair work. Use blueprints or diagrams as necessary.
- Review and record LMS data (i.e., flow, alarms, sump depths, load‑out volume) on a daily basis to ensure proper function of the system.
- Use computer SCADA system for operation and troubleshooting of essential leachate management infrastructure.
- Work with various site contractors and consultants, as necessary.
Will often carry out many different tasks in a single day at any number of locations throughout the County Landfill area. May have to stand for long periods or lift heavy objects. May work in uncomfortably hot or cold or wet environments, in uncomfortable or cramped positions, or on ladders. The work involves a lot of walking, climbing, and reaching.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS- Ability to concentrate on detail and sequential work tasks.
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair the variety of equipment referenced above.
- Ability to drive, bend, stoop, sit, and stand.
- Ability to effectively communicate with the public, vendors and employees at other divisions in order to complete required work.
- Ability to formulate and present ideas and findings clearly.
- Ability to lift, carry and handle up to forty‑five (45) pounds; stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work projects.
- Ability to read and understand repair manuals, diagrams, drawings, PML lists.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to use both hand and air‑driven power tools and other related shop equipment.
- Ability to use good judgment and make independent decisions.
- Ability to walk, kneel, bend, twist, lift, climb ladders and work on uneven surfaces, in landfill disposal areas, on 3:1 slopes.
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing instrumentation systems.
- Knowledge and ability to use both arc and oxygen/acetylene welding equipment.
- Knowledge of associated equipment to repair piping materials such as High Density Polyethylene and/or PVC.
