Maintenance Technician I & II, Facilities and Campus Services
Level I – Working under direct supervision, assist with general and preventive maintenance services as directed to ensure proper operation of campus facilities, operations, and services.
Level II – Working under minimal supervision, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, perform reactive and preventive maintenance services to ensure proper operation of campus facilities and operations. This person is expected to be fully proficient in their respective trade.
This position is not eligible for sponsorship of non‑immigrant or immigrant visa status through Wake Forest University. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.
Essential Functions- Electrical: perform or assist with repairs to electrical systems, outlets, and cords; assist with installation of motors and belts; respond to all electrical work requests; perform or assist with preventive maintenance on electrical equipment as scheduled.
- Plumbing: stop overflowing and clogged toilets; unclog showers and sinks; assist with repairs to valves, gaskets, and lines (including water, sewer, steam, and condensate lines); respond to all plumbing service requests; perform or assist with preventive maintenance on plumbing equipment as scheduled.
- HVAC: respond to all repairs to industrial HVAC equipment – including fan coil units; change filters and fan belts; open HVAC drains; respond to all HVAC work requests; also perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment as scheduled.
- Carpentry: respond to work on carpentry repairs on doors, door hardware, windows, storm window fabrication, walls, shelving, and other required carpentry work.
- Painting: respond to patching, caulking, priming, staining, and painting of ceilings, walls, doors, windows, and other items as needed.
- Act in the capacity of a general maintenance technician in assigned buildings, perform or assist with preventive maintenance tasks, and fulfill work orders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- This position may be designated as essential personnel to support business continuity during campus emergencies, disasters, or other special needs as directed by management. Essential personnel may be recalled outside their normal schedule.
- Provide excellent service to internal and external department customers.
- Report all safety matters to the appropriate supervisor and, if necessary, to the Safety Director.
- Follow all University and departmental policies and procedures.
- High school diploma with one to three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; insurable.
- Effective communication in English with students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to read, understand, and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to use computer software and systems to communicate, monitor, interface, and troubleshoot systems as required.
- Ability to use an iPad or similar device to review daily work orders and enter comments.
- Basic knowledge and skills in the preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building systems as needed (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and building interiors).
- High school diploma plus specialized training with three to five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient knowledge and skills in preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building systems as needed (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and building interiors). Specialization in specific areas may be required.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and ability to meet the University’s automobile insurance requirements.
- Effective communication in English with students, faculty, and staff sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to read, understand, and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to use computer software and systems to communicate, monitor, interface, and troubleshoot systems as required.
