Overview
Under immediate supervision, performs difficult skilled and technical work in the maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment; does related work as required. Inspects operation of building systems equipment such as air conditioning and refrigeration units; inspects and services pumps, electrical motors, pressure gauges, boilers, compressors, heating and air conditioning equipment; inspects, cleans or replaces bulbs, coils, condensers, rings and bushings, valves, safety controls, couplings, fan belts and related equipment;
tests boiler and water treatment operations; gases, oils, greases and cleans equipment; responds to requests for service on equipment failures, power losses, etc., keeps records of work and makes reports.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, supplemented by technical training in HVAC and extensive experience in servicing, maintaining and repairing of mechanical and electrical equipment.
Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, tools and techniques of mechanical equipment repair;
- Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with equipment maintenance work;
- Skill in the operation of the tools and equipment used in the trade;
- Ability to diagnose mechanical trouble in small machines and mechanical equipment;
- Ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions;
- Ability to work well with others.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver s license.
