Construction Labor / Trades, Heavy Equipment Operator
Performs manual work providing manual labor at construction sites in the city’s parks and ball fields, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Park Maintenance Crew Coordinator.

- Cleans and prepares park sites for reservations by performing litter pick up, disinfecting and cleaning restrooms, trash removal, and other duties as needed.
- Assist with tilling and resurfacing playgrounds and graffiti removal.
- Assist with removing bulky items from park locations.
- Perform painting and pressure washing of facilities.
- Follows detailed instructions from supervisors, crew leader or crew coordinator for laborer needs.
- Assists skilled tradespeople in their duties.
- Perform duties as assigned.
- Works monthly rotating weekends, events, and holidays.
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in general construction trades, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of the tools and heavy equipment of the trade; general knowledge of maintenance manuals; general knowledge of policy and/or procedure manuals; general knowledge of ball field diagrams; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions;
ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to read 25' rule; ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with associates, supervisors, and the general public.
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and frequent exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions, frequently requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting and tasting or smelling;
work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities;
work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, working with explosives and exposure to vibration;
work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
