Facility Maint Tech-Mech Trade; Temp

Position Overview

Winston‑Salem State University invites applicants for the temporary position of Facility Maintenance Technician – Mechanical Trade. The role ensures safe, efficient campus facilities and supports engineering & maintenance activities as part of the Facilities Management Team.

• Maintain and repair standard mechanical systems including air, water, gas, and waste disposal.
• Perform preventative maintenance, renovation, overhaul, and replacement of equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot facility maintenance issues.
• Install chillers, overhaul and re‑wire electrical systems, major underground plumbing, security cameras, and card‑swipe systems.
• Document safety incidents and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Assist other technicians and mentor junior staff.
• Ensure all work meets applicable codes, standards, and quality expectations.
• Maintain accurate records and use proper equipment for safety.

• High school diploma or GED; or equivalently trained in mechanical maintenance.
• Experience in installation, maintenance, or repair of air, water, gas or waste disposal systems.
• Valid US driver’s license (yes).
• Commercial driver’s license not required.
• Physical ability to perform work (no special physical requirements noted).
• Preferred:
  Year‑for‑year substitution for trade experience with education.

Position No. NS8005 – Facility Maint Tech‑Mech Trade (Temp). 11‑month, full‑time, $20 per hour, 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 7:00 AM‑4:00 PM.
