Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

Overview

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Level III provides professional, competent anesthesia care to a wide variety of patients, from pediatric up to geriatric populations, requiring surgical, obstetrical, and other anesthesia services. The CRNA Level III utilizes skills obtained through additional training, education and/or experience in the provision of anesthesia care to patients who present with complex and unique anesthetic requirements.

Works primarily in a tertiary medical center with multispecialty trauma services and multiple NORA (Non-Operating Room Anesthesia) sites and provides needed coverage to ASCs, HOPDs, and Community Medical Centers as directed by NH Anesthesia Leadership. Team members regularly participate in all main OR anesthesia and NORA cases and may form designated specialty teams such as Cardiac, Neuro, and Neonatal teams.

Must participate in call coverage if part of the facility scheduling model. New Graduates can request to transition to CRNA Level III after 6 months of employment. All team members will practice within the full scope of their CRNA privileges.

Location:

Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC

• Deliver anesthesia care across a broad range of case types in collaboration with the care team.
• Participate in designated specialty teams (e.g., Cardiac, Neuro, Neonatal) as assigned.
• Contribute to call coverage as required by the facility scheduling model.
• Participate in at least one department committee and/or department project each fiscal year.
• Support a safe patient environment guided by the principles of "First Do No Harm".

• Education:
  
  BSN, MSN, DNP, or graduate diploma level certification required. Graduate from an Accredited School of Nursing and School of Nurse Anesthesia. NBCRNA-certified as a CRNA and recognized by the state of practice. Meet NBCRNA continuing education requirements every four years.
• Experience:
  
  Previous experience is not required. Four to six weeks orientation with a preceptor; duration depends on prior experience and clinical skills.
• Licensure/certification/registration:
  Current RN licensure in appropriate state; current CRNA endorsement; NBCRNA certification; ACLS, BLS, and PALS as required by NH policy.
• Additional Skills/Requirements:
  Extensive knowledge of anesthetic agents, techniques, drugs, and equipment. Ability to modify anesthetic plans based on patient age. Strong independent decision-making under stress and professional demeanor with patients, coworkers, and physicians. Ability to provide anesthesia care for all case types (excluding specialty teams such as heart and neonatal teams).
