Summary
This is a year-round staff position (with overtime) in the plant. This position performs skilled work supporting the following: industrial instrumentation / electrical systems, electrical controls and troubleshooting, PLC controls and troubleshooting. This position also supports: mechanical, plumbing, welding, fabrication, and building / grounds maintenance. Resolves emergency breakdown situations with accurate and timely troubleshooting. Performs ongoing equipment and facility maintenance and repairs equipment.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Possesses thorough knowledge of manufacturing, industrial equipment, compressors, and facility maintenance.
- Install, test, calibrate, repair, modify, and maintain electrical / electronic / instrumentation controls for tobacco processing and industrial equipment.
- Knowledge and troubleshooting skills of the following systems:
- Process control loop tuning (PID; Gain, Reset, Rate).
- Process control loops (4-20 ma analog).
- 110v motor control circuits.
- 480v distribution and motor controls.
- AC variable frequency drives and DC drives.
- Allen Bradley PLC5 / Control Logix and other PLC's.
- Ethernet termination (cat 5 and
6). - Pneumatic air control systems (3-15 psi).
- Industrial instrumentation and electrical systems.
- Safely operate electrical / electronic test equipment common to this discipline (voltmeter, Altec, oscilloscope, etc.).
- Safely work with hand tools common to this discipline (screw drivers, wrenches, measuring devices, etc.).
- Safely operate common shop equipment (drills, grinders, threaders, press, etc.).
- Advanced troubleshoot skills to diagnose process equipment issues (electrical and mechanical) quickly and accurately to determine equipment failure and perform corrective action accordingly.
- Read and work from blueprints / drawings / schematics.
- Knowledge of OSHA and safety regulations.
- Guide productivity / technology projects.
- Ability and willingness to operate industrial vehicles / lifts.
- Perform preventative maintenance as assigned.
- Work on confined space as authorized.
- Wiring and installation of special projects.
- Assist / support production personnel on process issues.
- Assist with training other employees.
Other Desired Skills:
- Knowledge and troubleshooting skills of the following systems:
- Pneumatic air transport systems.
- Boiler operation and controls.
- Industrial mechanical systems.
- Mass flow meters (volume).
- Mass flow scales (solid).
- Thermocouples.
- Compressed air systems.
- Hydraulic control systems.
- Experience with tobacco processing equipment and controls.
- Conduit / tubing bending, installation, and formulas.
- Basic welding and torch skills.
- Minimum education
- A.A.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology or
- A.A.S. in Instrument and Control Automation Technology or
- A.A.S. in Mechatronics Engineering Technology or
- A.A.S. in a related field or
- Military equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years field technical industrial maintenance experience (troubleshooting) in a manufacturing / processing / process control systems environment.
- Proficient instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical skills; with safety always the first consideration.
- Demonstrated advanced problem-solving skills, decision-making, and prioritizes tasks daily.
- Ability to work independently and with others.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills for record keeping and communication.
- Basic math skills.
- Willing to work overtime as needed to ensure plant operational efficiency.
- Willing to work any shift.
- Willing to be on call.
- Basic computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Able to multitask.
- A motivated self-starter that adheres to work schedules and performs tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal communication skills and relates well with a wide variety of personalities.
- Plans / organizes work and maintains records as directed.
- Work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Occasionally lift up to 70 lbs. and work at heights of 35 feet.
- Willing to tackle any task assigned.
