Set up and operate CNC lathes, 3, 4, and 5 axis mills, and other conventional and CNC equipment. Write G‑code and use Mazatrol (conversational programming) to develop CNC programs for machining composite parts to specification. Responsibilities also include manual tooling fabrication (metal and composite) for lay‑up, machining, and assembly fixtures using conventional and CNC machines and machining procedures. Assist in new tooling concept and design.
Modify existing tooling as required to maximize productivity and quality. Perform preventative maintenance and make minor repairs as required.
Must be a U.S. Citizen, as this job is within a Secured Facility. Secret Level Clearance required.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform all duties in a safe manner abiding by company safety programs.
- Read, interpret and work to written instructions such as standard task procedures, work orders, supplementary instructions, manufacturer's and customer's specifications, Safety Data Sheets, safety rules.
- Understand and follow verbal instructions.
- Analyze blueprints, written specifications, drawings, and sketches to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished parts and tooling. Plan setup operations and determine sequence of operations.
- Set up and operate all machine tools in the factory.
- Able to write CNC code in Mazatrol software (conversational programming) and/or G‑Code.
- Perform in‑process CMM probing operations and final acceptance probing operations, both manual and programmed.
- Perform rough machining operations.
- Run coordinate measurement machine (CMM).
- Set up and run CNC lathe according to established CNC programs.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed and depth of cut to optimize production.
- Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining, adjust machine controls or tool offsets as required.
- Collect and report process data such as setup and run time, dimensional plotting and tracking; input recordings into statistical process control charts, recognizing and reporting trends and process variations.
- Lead team activities and training for the department.
- Cross‑train in other areas as directed.
Work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level is usually moderate. While on duty, Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) provided for this position must be used.
Physical Demands & Skills- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus are required.
- Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; frequently stand or stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally sit, climb or balance.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules and training programs, operating and maintenance instructions, equipment manuals, code requirements, procedure manuals, Safety Data Sheets, and standard task procedures.
- Solve practical problems and handle a variety of variables where limited standardization exists. Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Understand and follow verbal instructions.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors, and/or employees.
- Use group decision‑making techniques and problem‑solving meeting techniques. Function in a team environment.
- High School/GED or technical school; a minimum of three to five years related and current industrial experience and/or training or equivalent from two‑year college or technical school; two to four years related experience and/or training. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
- ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and/or AS9100 experience preferred.
