Job Description Summary
Utilizing excellent customer service and high attention to detail, perform general custodial duties as directed by departmental leadership.
Essential Functions- Upon direction and training from the Team Lead of Custodial Services, follow established cleaning procedures and techniques.
- Complete duties including sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors; dusting and polishing furniture and woodwork.
- Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
- Empty and clean waste and recycling receptacles; pick up paper and trash.
- Clean relight glass, windows, and walls.
- Clean decks, balconies, sidewalks, offices, laundry rooms, and common space areas.
- Set up, move, and arrange furniture and equipment.
- Turn out lights and lock doors and windows, as required.
- Maintain custodial areas and equipment so they are clean and presentable.
- Unload supply deliveries and organize materials as needed.
- Launder housekeeping materials as requested by leadership.
- Work on special projects and clean other facilities, as assigned.
- Report all matters of safety to the Supervisor.
- Follow all University and departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by departmental leadership.
- May volunteer as an essential employee as designated in the Facilities Management Severe Weather Policy.
- Ability to read and understand safety procedures, cleaning instructions, and schedules.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to build and maintain an effective working relationship with students, faculty, and staff who are different from oneself.
- Ability to understand and interpret terminology related to the area of work.
- Ability to understand and follow the vision, structure, culture, philosophy, values, and code of ethics of the facilities department and Wake Forest University as a whole.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including hazards.
- This position may be designated as essential personnel to support business continuity during campus emergencies, disasters, or other special needs as directed by management. Essential personnel are subject to recall inside/outside their normal schedule. Additional details can be found in the Wake Forest University Policy on Weather and Other Unusual Conditions.
High school graduate plus one year of work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical RequirementsClimbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking within areas on campus, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
Environmental ConditionsSubject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and hazards.
