Custodian; Night Shift

Overview

Forsyth County General Services is seeking motivated, detail oriented candidates for the position of Custodian. Employees in this position are responsible for the daily cleaning of assigned county buildings during the night shift. The work schedule is 4:00 P.M.

- 12:30 A.M. and is subject to change at the county's needs.

This job varies from cleaning floors, bathrooms, elevators, and office areas. As a nighttime custodian with Forsyth County, assignments could include cleaning conference rooms at the Government Center or cleaning medical offices at the Law Enforcement Detention Center. We service the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Government Center, and County Detention Center. Due to high foot traffic, each employee has multiple tasks daily.

The job requires some heavy lifting, attention to detail, and spending most of the shift on your feet. Prior cleaning and disinfecting knowledge is helpful but not required.

Mon through Fri, 4:00 P.M.

- 12:30 A.M.

• Dust and damp mop all rooms and corridors.
• Sweep floors and vacuum carpeted areas; shampoo carpets.
• Strip, wax and buff floors.
• Empty and clean ashtrays and trash receptacles.
• Wash windows, light fixtures, walls and mirrors.
• Clean bathroom fixtures and other surfaces with germicidal solutions.
• Move furniture and other office equipment.
• Clean assigned equipment and store in proper place; restock cleaning supplies.
• Disinfect common areas and surfaces.
• Performs related work as required.

• Working knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment used in custodial work.
• Ability to operate custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, carpet sweepers and speed buffing machines.
• Ability to follow cleaning schedules for periodic cleaning of all facilities.
• Ability to observe and report needs for supplies.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.

• Ability to read and write information relevant to perform the job.
• Previous janitorial and floor care experience preferred.
• Experience with disinfection techniques preferred.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the U.S. Department of Justice's CJIS Security Policy and requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Applicants will complete the CJIS background check at the time of an interview as part of the recruitment process. Completion does not guarantee an offer of employment.
