Custodian, Facilities and Campus Services

Utilize excellent customer service and high attention to detail to perform general custodial duties as directed by departmental leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Follow established cleaning procedures and techniques under the direction and training from the Team Lead of Custodial Services.
  • Complete duties including sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors; dusting and polishing furniture and woodwork.
  • Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
  • Empty and clean waste and recycling receptacles; pick up paper and trash.
  • Clean relight glass, windows, and walls.
  • Clean decks, balconies, sidewalks, offices, laundry rooms, and common spaces.
  • Set up, move, and arrange furniture and equipment.
  • Turn out lights and lock doors and windows as required.
  • Maintain custodial areas and equipment to keep them clean and presentable.
  • Unload supply deliveries and organize materials as needed.
  • Launder housekeeping materials as requested by leadership.
  • Work on special projects and clean other facilities as assigned.
  • Report safety matters to the Supervisor and follow all University and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by departmental leadership.
Other Functions

May be designated as essential personnel for inclement weather or other unusual conditions, as required to perform essential services to support student needs and business continuity per Human Resources Policy.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to read and understand safety procedures, cleaning instructions, and schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to build and maintain an effective working relationship with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to understand and interpret terminology related to the area of work.
  • Ability to understand and follow the vision, structure, culture, philosophy, values, and code of ethics of the facilities department and Wake Forest University as a whole.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Physical abilities: climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking within areas on campus, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
  • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, including hazards.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

High school graduate plus one year of work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking between areas on campus, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, and grasping.

Environmental Conditions

Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and hazards.
