Job Description
Summary:
The law fellow will oversee the Clinic’s work on heirs’ property cases. The fellow will be responsible for case management; liaising with partners around case intake; training private lawyers in heirs’ property issues; and working with students on cases.
Note: This position is not eligible for sponsorship of non-immigrant or immigrant visa status through Wake Forest University. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities- Case intake and management:
Intake and manage heirs’ property cases; develop an innovative intake model for heirs’ property cases; manage student work on heirs’ property cases; work with fellow institutions that provide heirs’ property legal services in NC to take on and complete heirs’ property case work; work with other schools and within Wake Forest to address heirs’ property cases. - Heirs’ property training:
Develop curriculum for heirs’ property training for private NC bar members; manage and implement two training sessions each year for continuing legal education credit. - Research and Outreach:
Complete research and writing to promote the clinic’s work on heirs’ property cases and advance the need for more attention to heirs’ property within NC and beyond; promote findings in the academic community through writing and conferences; liaise with other organizations to identify and exploit synergies. - Other Functions:
May perform additional or other work as assigned.
- Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Applicants must have a JD degree with at least two years of experience working on heirs’ property cases. The applicant must be an active member of the North Carolina bar or be able to become an NC bar member. The applicant must be able to start work no later than early July.
- Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Understanding of heirs’ property issues; experience working with clients who are heirs’ property owners; able to manage several cases; train other lawyers; work well in coalitions with other groups.
There are no direct reports to this position, budgetary responsibility, or authority.
