Hours Per Week: Varies / 0 hours (as listed in some sections) / PRN, 8 hours per week, day shift
Job SummaryPerforms accurate, consistent, and complete abstracting of patient records. Conducts quality analysis of records to ensure compliance with CAP protocols, AJCC staging, and ACOS requirements. Queries database and creates reports on requested subsets of cancer patient data.
Responsibilities- Pathology & AJCC Staging:
Review all pathology reports on Chartmax and attach staging form; ensure CAP protocol compliance on each appropriate path report; ensure AJCC staging has been completed by the physician. - Data Submission and Reporting:
Submit data monthly to the ACOS National Cancer Database and to the State Tumor Registry per NC requirements; report departmental statistics to the department manager by the 4th day of the month. - Quality Assurance:
Perform QA on Radiation Oncology patient list, ICD9 list, and Chemotherapy list each month. - Operations Support:
Maintain day-to-day operations within the Cancer Registry Department in the absence of the Oncology Program Manager; maintain up-to-date knowledge of ACOS accreditation standards and adjust processes to meet standards. - Professionalism and
Collaboration:
Uphold professional relationships, practice teamwork, and adhere to department rules; collaborate with team to promote program goals; participate in Cancer Conference / Tumor Board as assigned and document decisions. - Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED;
General Studies Required;
Associate in Health Science or related field preferred. - Certifications: Certified Cancer Registrar (Required or Preferred as specified)
- Experience: 2+ years in Cancer Registry (Required)
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, AJCC and SEER staging, IC0-3 manuals, Collaborative Staging, Multiple Primary Histology Manual, and COC FORDS manual; working knowledge of ACOS requirements; knowledge of cancer data software systems; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; strong investigative, analytical, and communication skills; ability to work self-paced.
- Technical Knowledge: Thorough working knowledge of required manuals for abstracting (AJCC Staging Manual Ed. 6, ICD-O, SEER Summary etc.); ability to participate in community outreach and marketing activities as needed.
- Pay Range: $26.10 - $39.15
