Air Care Flight Paramedic, Critical Care Transport
What You'll DoThe Flight Paramedic provides professional care through high-quality assessment, triage / treatment to assess the nature and extent of a patient’s illness / injury and prioritize the needed care. Provides comprehensive care through skillful assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Patients often are intubated on ventilators or have hemodynamic instability. The Mobile Medicine Paramedic II must have strong clinical knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients of all ages with a diverse range of medical needs operating specialized medical equipment and utilizing advanced skills.
The Flight Paramedic functions autonomously outside of the hospital environment under standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director as established by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS), and either one or both depending on job market the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (VAOEMS) and or South Carolina Office of EMS (SCOEMS). The Flight Paramedic must be proficient in advanced practice procedures to provide improved patient outcomes.
Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required
- Successful completion of an accredited EMT-Paramedic training program required. Current National Registry Paramedic certification and the ability to obtain a Virginia and North Carolina Paramedic certification is required
- BLS required
- ACLS and PALS required to completing orientation
- Three (3) years of clinical paramedic experience required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Provider) required if on Critical Care or Flight Team
- Must have FP-C (Flight Paramedic Certified) within 2 years of hire or CCP-C (Critical Care Paramedic Certified) within 2 years of hire if doing ground only transports
- Approved Trauma Certification within 6 months of hire
- Advocate Health approved driving course to be completed within 90 days of hire
- Must have a valid driver's license and qualify as insurable by Advocate Health insurance carrier requirements for driving Air Care vehicles

- Transport Vehicle Safety Training – ambulance and helicopter.
- Collects data pertinent to the healthcare consumer’s health or the situation.
- Analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnosis or issues.
- Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the healthcare consumer or the situation.
- Develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes.
- Implements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery, and employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
- Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Practices ethically
- Delegates elements of care to appropriate healthcare workers
- Promotes shared governance, or facility decision making activities, developing and nurturing research to positively affect clinical outcomes and promotion.
