Job PurposeDirect and coordinate the administrative duties of a major functional area. Work involves the direct supervision of a medium to large group of employees including other administrative personnel or supervisory subordinates. Responsible for initiating, developing and maintaining or implementing policies, programs and procedures generally in a Winston Salem, NC engine subcomponents and Caterpillar off highway parts manufacturing. Work involves a great deal of creativity, perception and initiative and decisions are made where clearly established policies or procedures are not fully developed.
Provides counsel in policy interpretation and/or application and is a recognized authority in matters related to policies under the jurisdiction of the activity.

REQUIRED:
- College degree with a major in engineering or equivalent.
- Some training and/or experience in statistic, Six Sigma and Lean.
PREFERRED:
- Formal course work and experience in probability, statistic, TPM, Lean, Six Sigma.

Key Job Elements- Develop strategies for Reliability and Statistical Analysis of Component Manufacturing.
- Develop and deploy accelerated testing techniques for product development.
- Oversee the implementation of reliability initiatives and programs.
- Set reliability policy and develop appropriate reliability procedures and processes.
- Support engineering in defining and executing product development reliability plans.
- Provide the organization with a clear understanding of how products and components are performing.
- Work with field service and customer engineering for rapid resolution of field problems.
- Coordinate overall activities with other departments and divisions.
- Prepare and deliver reliability and statistic presentations.
- Develop departmental goals and objectives.
- Participate in the selection of employees.
- Provide training and career development for employees.
- Improve current technical and managerial skills.
REQUIRED:
- Experience as a reliability or quality engineer.
- Proficiency as a supervisor, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in a multi‑site, global manufacturing and engineering environment.
- Ability to manage a group of technically oriented engineers and support personnel.
- Very high level of analytical ability to assess and identify appropriate alternative courses of action for definition and resolution where problems are highly unusual and/or complex.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Very high level of interpersonal skills to handle difficult situations as well diffuse interpersonal conflicts effectively.
PREFERRED:
- Knowledge of large diesel engines and automated manufacturing systems.
- Strength – Position involves work in a standard office environment. Frequent sitting. Occasional standing, walking. Rare lifting.
- Motion – Position requires standard repetitive motions and hand/eye coordination associated with research and central office communications.
