Position: BUILDING MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

Build Maintenance Specialist – Arizona State Prison Complex – Winslow

Join a team that makes a difference! The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is hiring a Building Maintenance Specialist. This hands‑on role requires general maintenance skills covering plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and kitchen equipment. You’ll help keep our facilities running smoothly by planning and completing projects, supervising an inmate work crew, and ensuring all equipment and tools are in top condition.

Job Duties
  • Schedule and plan maintenance‑related projects, including pricing, material list, equipment and needs
  • Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required and scheduled
  • Complete related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment, including computers, internet research, and completion of documents
  • Conduct inspections and maintain tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and to ensure all are accounted for
  • Supervise and evaluate inmate workers’ performance
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required
  • Perform other duties appropriate to the assignment
  • Drive on State business
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of:

  • Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codes
  • Trades (electrical, electronic, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general facility maintenance, preventive maintenance, etc.)
  • Budgeting, including estimating costs and ordering materials
  • Common and specialized tools for performing duties
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and national and local building codes/regulations

Skill in:

  • Basic reading of blueprints and schematics
  • General construction
  • Mechanical devices
  • Electrical
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Using and demonstrating common and specialized tools
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Building and maintaining interpersonal relationships

Ability to:

  • Lift/Carry 50lbs
  • Push/Pull 50lbs

  • Work in a prison environment
  • Supervise inmate work crews
  • Learn and adhere to ADCRR policies and procedures
Selective Preference(s)
  • On‑the‑job training as a technical or generalized maintenance staff person
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Technical education
  • Specialized trade schools and unions
Pre‑Employment Requirements

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.

If this position involves driving or the use of a vehicle, the following apply: the employee must possess and retain a current, valid, class‑appropriate driver’s license; complete all required training and pass all necessary driver record checks; and maintain acceptable driving records. Employees driving on state business must have liability insurance and comply with the Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.).

All employees must undergo a Tuberculosis (TB) test during New Employee Orientation and annually thereafter.

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).

Retirement

Positions in this classification participate in the Corrections Officer Retirement Plan (CORP). As a condition of participation, you will be required to undergo a medical evaluation. Current ADCRR Employees: consult your respective Human Resources Liaison if you are in a different retirement plan than the one indicated above.
