Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position requiring pediatric care comfort and titration of critical drips.
Responsibilities- Work in an 8-bed ICU within an acute care hospital setting
- Serves a diverse patient population including adults and pediatrics with medical, surgical, cardiac, respiratory, and neurological diagnoses
- Primary nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1 to 1:3, flexing to 1:4 based on acuity; may take lower acuity patients when appropriate
- Night shifts with a 12-hour schedule (6:45 pm – 7:15 am) including up to every third weekend and every third holiday
- May be asked to float to Medical/Surgical and MS Peds units, capped at 1:4 patient ratio
- On-call may be required for low census, typically on a volunteer basis
- Cerner is the charting system used for documentation; experience preferred
- ICU RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry for ICU, MS, and OB units
- Respiratory Therapists and hospitalists are in-house 24/7
- No monitor techs present in the unit
- ICU RNs care for pediatric and adult patients with a wide range of complex diagnoses, including DKA, respiratory failure, myocardial infarction, stroke, sepsis, and post-op management
- May occasionally mentor or orient new staff or travelers
- One ICU nurse is required to attend all active hospital codes
- Scrub colors are flexible; scrubs provided for OR cases
- One 12-hour general orientation shift and one 12-hour shift with a preceptor are provided
- Holiday rotation may be required as determined by department leadership
- Active MN RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI certifications required
- Minimum of 1 year recent ICU experience required
- Must be comfortable caring for pediatric patients
- Ability to titrate all critical care drips, including nor epinephrine, epinephrine, vasopressin, diltiazem, nitroglycerin, and others
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry accurately
- Radius requirement: must reside at least 100 miles from the facility
