Class 5 Truck Driver

Class 5 Truck Driver | National Diabetes Trust

Part‑time position (up to 29 hours per week) working established routes to collect donated clothing and household items from customers’ homes and designated charity bins, and deliver these items to corporate partners and storage facilities.

Hourly Wage: CA $19.56

• Understand and promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the general public and volunteers.
• Always operate vehicles in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and in a safe and responsible manner.
• Conduct ‘pre’ and ‘post’ trip inspections.
• Complete and submit the appropriate paperwork daily, including Hours‑of‑Service logs and associated paperwork.
• Carry proof of a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, commercial registration and Hours‑of‑Service documentation.
• Check in with dispatch at the beginning, mid‑day, and end of the scheduled route.
• Provide an appropriate message card to each donor.
• Log all assigned pick‑ups and unload merchandise as instructed.
• Return all equipment to the office at the end of each day.
• Report route discrepancies to dispatch and ensure that only authorized personnel ride inside the truck.
• Participate in all required driving‑related NDT education, initiatives, directives and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as required to ensure the effective functioning of Operations.

• Grade 12 education or equivalent experience.
• Ability to read maps and handle 10‑50 lbs. loads.
• Ability to drive a 3‑Ton (16 foot) straight truck.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to map routes efficiently.
• Positive, business‑like image and effective communication skills with a wide variety of people.
• Calm assistance to upset clients and maintain a public‑relations attitude during stressful situations.
• Good command of the English language and superior customer‑service skills.
• Full Class 5 or higher (or equivalent) commercial driver’s license.
• Minimum of 5 years actual driving experience at the above level (2 years if professional commercial vehicle training received).
• Clean driver abstract, less than 21 days old, with no violations or accidents in the last 3 years.
