Up to $23.50 per hour.

- Up to 40 hours per week – Dependent on program needs
- Orientation will take place on select evenings and weekends in May and June 2026

The OpportunityThe City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Head Lifeguard to join our team. Under the direction of the Pool Supervisor and Program Coordinator, the Head Lifeguard is responsible for assisting in the leadership, supervision, and daily operations of the Selkirk Park Pool & Splash Pad. This role ensures a safe and enjoyable environment by supporting lifeguard staff, enforcing safety protocols, and assisting with administrative and operational tasks.
The Head Lifeguard serves as a leader among the lifeguard team and acts as a point of contact in the absence of the Pool Supervisor.
- Serve as a role model for lifeguards, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
- Assist the Pool Supervisor in training, scheduling, and evaluating lifeguard staff.
- Support staff in handling emergency situations, patron concerns, and conflict resolution.
- Lead by example in maintaining high standards of professionalism, safety, and customer service.
- Help ensure lifeguards are adhering to rotation schedules, scanning techniques, and safety protocols.
- Assist in conducting training sessions and safety drills.
- Monitor the pool area to ensure patron safety and enforce all rules and regulations.
- Perform water rescues and administer first aid/CPR as required.
- Maintain cleanliness of the pool and surrounding area, including skimming, vacuuming, and general maintenance tasks.
- Assist in the implementation of water safety education and public awareness initiatives.
- Complete and review incident reports, facility inspections, and daily logbook entries.
- Assist with monitoring pool chemical levels and facility conditions, reporting concerns to the Pool Supervisor.
- Interact professionally with patrons, providing information and enforcing rules in a courteous manner.
- Attend to patron concerns, escalating issues to the Pool Supervisor when necessary.
- Promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere at the facility.
- Assist with daily pool admissions, ticketing, and cash reconciliation as required.
- Support record-keeping, including attendance tracking, incident reporting, and maintenance logs.
- Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Pool Supervisor or Program Coordinator.
- 17 years of age or older
- Valid CPR-C Level or higher, in accordance with the standards set by the International Liaison Committee of Resuscitation
- Valid First Aid Certification from one of the following:
- St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate
- Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate
- Lifesaving Society Aquatic Emergency Care Certificate
- Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid Certificate
- Criti Care Inc. Standard First Aid Certificate
- Safety Services Manitoba Standard First Aid Certificate
- Heart Beat Inc. Manitoba Standard First Aid Certificate
- Valid Swim for Life Instructor and/or Lifesaving Instructor
- Clear Current Child Abuse Registry Check
- Clear Current Criminal Record Check
- 2 years of lifeguarding experience
- Must be physically able to perform all the laboring aspects or other duties associated with the position Comments
This is a Casual Non-Union position ranging from May to September 2026, working various hours up to 40 hours a week based on a flexible schedule.
This position requires the individual to work outdoors and in an outdoor pool environment.
Due to the nature of the position, irregular working hours are required, including evening and weekend shifts, as the facility operates 7 days a week. This position will be required to work on Canada Day, August and September long weekends.
This position is excluded from the Collective Agreement and is open to all applicants. Applications will be accepted until February 20, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
