The Opportunity

The City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Pool Supervisor to join our team. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Pool Supervisor is responsible for the day‑to‑day provision of an acceptable level of public safety for pool patrons; staff supervision and management; implementation of the Red Cross Swim Program; and facility upkeep.

Job Duties
  • 1 - Aquatic Operations
    • Ensure the enforcement of rules and regulations of the pool.
    • Responsible for the delivery of instructional programs and special events at the facility.
    • Provide excellent customer service to patrons at the pool.
    • Assign, supervise and assist in pool maintenance and cleanliness of the pool and surrounding area including skimming, sweeping, vacuuming and picking of garbage.
    • Ensure pool acts and regulations are being followed.
    • Perform guarding and instructing duties as required.
    • Oversee group bookings and rentals.
    • Create and implement guarding rotations and coverage for the pool at all times.
    • Report, record and advise the Program Coordinator of any and all problems or concerns of staff or public.
    • Coach and mentor support staff in accordance with Aquatic Services policies, procedures, and practices.
    • Ensure high standards of safety supervision.
    • Monitor staff and public to ensure that all regulations are upheld at all times.
    • Report deficiencies in a timely manner.
    • Responsible for making decisions that impact public safety including, when and if to close a swim due to safety related issues.
    • Maintain effective public relations employing tactful, polite and helpful demeanor.
    • Educate the public with respect to the content of programs offered by the City of Selkirk.
  • 2 - Administration
    • Oversee the selection and assignment of all pool personnel.
    • Assist in the planning and organizing of swim programs and scheduling of activities for pool use.
    • Assist in scheduling of aquatic staff.
    • Develop and conduct in‑service training programs for the staff assigned to the pool.
    • Responsible for overseeing and balancing the daily deposit from Pool entry fees.
    • Ensure the upkeep of all records of attendance, accident reports, First Aid treatments, maintenance, and any other requirements set out in Provincial Legislation and in the City of Selkirk Park Pool Policy & Procedure Manual.
    • Process swim lesson registrations.
    • Create lesson class lists.
    • Review and process lesson report cards.
    • Prepare and maintain a bi‑weekly rotation, scheduling and payroll records of staff.
    • Maintain and update standard operating and emergency procedures.
    • Ensure the maintenance and review of the Selkirk Park Pool Policy & Procedure Manual.
    • Evaluate performance of staff members.
    • Provide a final report of the Pool Season.
  • 3 - Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements
  • 17 years of age, or older
  • Valid CPR‑C Level or higher, in accordance with the standards set by the International Liaison Committee of Resuscitation
  • Valid First Aid Certification from one of the following:
    • St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate
    • Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate
    • Lifesaving Society Aquatic Emergency Care Certificate
    • Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid Certificate
    • Criti Care Inc. Standard First Aid Certificate
    • Safety Services Manitoba Standard First Aid Certificate
    • Heartbeat Inc. Manitoba Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service Award
  • Valid Swim for Life Instructor Certification
  • Lifesaving Instructor Certification considered an asset
  • 3 (three) years of experience in lifeguarding
  • Clear Current Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Clear Current Criminal Record Check
  • Must be physically able to perform all the laboring aspects or other duties…
