Under the general supervision of the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor or designated Foreman/Leading Industrial Mechanic, the Industrial Mechanic is responsible for carrying out mechanical maintenance, repairs, overhauls, and installations on all types of mechanical equipment, as assigned.
Duties- Perform mechanical repairs to complex and varying sizes of pumping units, compressors, overhead cranes, moving bridges, centrifuges, grinders, etc.
- Install new mechanical equipment as required.
- Align equipment to required specifications and tolerances.
- Repair and install chemical equipment.
- Make connections for offloading hazardous commodities.
- Repair and overhaul natural gas, diesel, and gasoline internal combustion engines.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and maintain accurate records and sketches.
- Work with a Computerized Work Maintenance System (CWMS).
- Practice workplace safety and adhere to required regulations.
- Perform other duties consistent with the classification, as required.
- Grade 12 education or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the Industrial Mechanic’s (Millwright) trade.
- Experience in the maintenance, repairing, and troubleshooting of all types of pumps.
- Experience in installing and servicing mechanical seals.
- Experience in aligning equipment to required tolerances.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical equipment maintenance (HVAC).
- Experience in troubleshooting and analyzing problems on process‑related equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, draw sketches for modifications, and update blueprints.
- Ability to interpret vibrations and analyze them on machinery and equipment using available equipment (e.g., vibration analyzers, laser shaft alignment computers).
- Demonstrated knowledge of complex hydraulic systems.
- Preferred experience with the use and handling of hazardous chemicals and related equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels, external contacts, contractors, and the public.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations, and procedures applicable to the area of work (confined entry, hazardous conditions, etc.).
- Must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada; if possessing a work permit, must ensure it remains valid.
- Must possess the Industrial Mechanic’s (Millwright) Inter‑provincial Trade Certification with a Red Seal.
- A Police Information Check, satisfactory to the employer, will be required at the candidate’s expense.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence; a Notice of Driver’s Licence In Force document must be provided upon request.
