Conservation Assistant

Full-Time (37.5 hrs/week) 8:30AM to 4:30PM (Occasional overtime, evenings, weekend, and field work will be required).

Hourly Wage: $18.59 per hour

The Opportunity

We are seeking multiple Conservation Assistants to join the Conservation and Research team at Assiniboine Park Zoo.

Conservation Assistantsareresponsible for working individually and as part of the team to collect data,assistin the implementation of research and conservation projects, and communicate conservation messages to visitors.

Primary duties of the incumbents will include rearing and research on endangered butterflies on-site as part of our grassland butterfly conservation program. Other projects the incumbents will support include:monitoring local bird populations, collecting observational data for animal behaviour projects, and other support of research programs as required. Fieldwork will berequiredwithsomeovernightstays at a field site, but most work will occur at the Parkand Zoo.

Required Education, Training, and Experience
  • Completed or currently working towards an undergraduate degree in biology, ecology, or a related field.
  • Excellent proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office software, Google Workplace apps, and a demonstrated aptitude for quickly learning new software programs.
  • Strong attention to detail for data collection.
  • Previous experience conducting research in a laboratory or field setting considered an asset.
  • Experience caring for and rearing plants and insects considered an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Manitoba Driver’s License, or the ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.
