Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager Health Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing services for patients in the Cardiac Surgery Inpatient Unit (CR4C). The RN delivers independent nursing care, administers prescribed medical treatments, leads within the health care team, and coordinates patient care and discharge, addressing complex and unpredictable health needs.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality nursing care to cardiac surgery patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures in accordance with policies and protocols.
  • Lead interdisciplinary collaboration, serve as a nursing leader, and mentor junior staff.
  • Coordinate patient care transitions, collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other team members.
  • Document patient care accurately and maintain comprehensive records.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the health care team.
Experience Required
  • One year of Cardiac Surgery Inpatient Unit (CSIU) and/or surgical nursing and/or cardiology nursing experience.
  • Current unit nurses are deemed qualified.
Education
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program.
Certification & Licensure
  • Current CRNM registration required.
  • Active participation in a professional association such as the Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Annual BLS Level C registration/re‑registration required.
  • Successful completion of the Advanced Assessment Course as scheduled by the employer.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).

Additional Requirements
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check required as conditions of employment.
