Organizational Description

Extra Life (extra-life.org) is an official program of the Children's Miracle Network, Extra Lifers in Manitoba () that fundraise for the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. We have official support from CHFM and work with dedicated representatives at the hospital foundation.

We play video games, board games, table‑top RPGs, etc to raise money. Participants in Extra Life do individual or team fundraising. Extra Life Winnipeg Guild members go above and beyond - our group attends and hosts community engagement events to promote awareness of Extra Life, encourage sign‑ups, and run fundraising activities.

In 2025, Extra Lifers in Manitoba raised over $92,000 for CHFM and the program is still growing! We have raised over $870,000 since 2012.

We are seeking a volunteer Social Media Manager to help engage and grow our community and reach online. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about gaming, understands social media trends, and wants to support a great cause.

Description of Duties
  • Work with the Extra Life Winnipeg team to develop and maintain a social media strategy and posting schedule.
  • Create engaging social media content for Instagram and Facebook, including graphics, short videos, and event promotions.
  • Highlight community stories, fundraising milestones, recognize local sponsors and partners, and promote upcoming events.
  • Help brainstorm, develop, and implement strategies to grow our social media audience.
  • Monitor engagement (comments, shares, messages) and help foster a positive online community.
  • Stay up to date on social media trends and recommend new content ideas or approaches (we also have a streamer partner who is available for ideas and assistance).
Skills Required
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing social media accounts (volunteer or professional).
  • Familiarity with Instagram and Facebook content formats, posting tools, and engagement strategies.
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to create clear, engaging posts.
  • Background knowledge of gaming.
  • Basic graphic design or content creation skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe tools, or similar).
  • Ability to plan content and maintain a consistent posting schedule.
  • Creativity, initiative, and willingness to collaborate with a team of volunteers.

Extra Life Winnipeg is typically active from February to November each year, taking a break to recharge in December & January. This position is a commitment through November 2026, with an opportunity to stay on with the team on an ongoing yearly basis.

There is also an opportunity to attend events such as Ai-Kon and Comiccon to directly take photos and videos for interested volunteers (you will have an opportunity to attend the convention for free outside of volunteering time), or otherwise our event volunteers can provide media from the event to develop content.
