The Winnipeg Singers is a choir of 24 professionally trained, auditioned singers. They present a four concert subscription series, also do outreach concerts in the province, and travel internationally. They have long been regarded as one of Canada’s finest choral ensembles.

Description of Duties

Do you want to be involved with one of Winnipeg’s premier professional choirs? We need help with "Front of House". Duties would include:

  • Contacting the venue to ensure that enough tables are set up for the concert (four concerts each year; October, December, March and May)
  • Contacting our list of available ushers for each concert (4 each year) to make sure they are available and searching new ushers if necessary
  • Attending the concert and overseeing the ushers to ensure that patrons are greeted on arrival and seated efficiently and that all patrons are ticket holders
Skills Required
  • Organizational skills – able to contact the venue prior to concerts and arrange for tables, and to contact ushers to arrange for them to be at the concert
  • Reliability – the choir will be relying on the successful candidate to be at the concert and to ensure that entry for patrons runs smoothly
  • Communication skills – be able to communicate clearly with patrons
  • Problem‑solving skills – be able to address questions from patrons and either solve questions or refer them to a staff member who can help
Skills Gained / Related Careers
  • Experience with a professional choir
  • Experience working with other volunteers
  • Experience in organization of Front of House duties at concerts, possibility of leading to other positions within this or other organizations

Age: 18‑30, 31‑54, 55+

Time Commitment:
Flexible Hours

Time commitment involves the following for each of the four concerts:

  • Visit to the venue anytime before the concert to connect with staff and determine what tables and chairs would be necessary for front of house, and arrange with staff to have them set up
  • Concerts are held Sunday afternoons at 3 PM. You would be required to arrive at the venue around 1 PM to ensure tables are set up, ushers have arrived, brief the ushers on their duties, and stay for the concert. Finish around 5 PM
