Urban Wagons is a volunteer-driven community outreach organization based in Winnipeg, dedicated to supporting unsheltered and vulnerable members of the community. Through Monday Night outreach walks in Winnipeg's downtown core, volunteers provide food, hot drinks, hygiene supplies, clothing, and seasonal essentials to individuals in need. The organization emphasizes human connection, dignity, and trust-building, focusing beyond material support to foster meaningful relationships.

Supported by community partnerships, donations, and volunteer efforts, Urban Wagons adapts quickly to emerging challenges while championing compassion, accountability, and inclusion. The organization also runs special initiatives, such as donation drives and events, to extend its impact during critical times of the year.

Role Description

This is an on-site, Volunteer role based in Winnipeg, MB. Volunteers will participate in regular outreach walks, distributing essential items, engaging in compassionate conversations, and building trust with the community members. Responsibilities include assisting with sorting, packing, and organizing donations, setting up and participating in special initiatives such as fundraisers and events, and supporting logistics and planning efforts. Volunteers play a key role in fostering a welcoming and supportive environment that upholds the organization’s values of dignity, respect, and connection.

Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building trust and engaging in compassionate conversations with diverse individuals
  • Organization and time management skills for sorting and distributing supplies, as well as coordinating outreach activities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with diverse community members and organizations
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to emerging needs in challenging or dynamic settings
  • Passion for community service, social justice, and supporting vulnerable populations
  • Physical ability to perform the tasks required for outreach activities, including walking for extended periods and lifting supplies
  • Prior volunteer or community engagement experience is a plus
