Job Purpose

The Plant Operator position at McAsphalt is the starting position of new employees with no previous experience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • In this position you will be exposed to various equipment types and all training will be provided, previous experience with mobile equipment an asset but not required
  • Previous experience in an industrial setting, is an asset, not required.
  • Performing routine monitoring on the following:
    • Security checks – gates, doors and equipment secure
    • Bulk Liquid terminal and associated equipment, above ground
    • Assisting team where required for general support
    • General clean‑up of site, plant, work areas as required
  • Loading bulk tankers and off‑loading rail cars
  • Must demonstrate and execute safe work plans and job hazard analysis including hot work procedures.
  • Handle and transport materials (asphalt) and equipment (drills and grinders)
  • Use power tools and mobile power equipment (forklift, manlift) when needed
  • Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Taking product samples and delivering to the laboratory on‑site
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs or recognize where lifting mechanisms need to be implemented
  • Required to learn rail car safety and securement as regulated requirements
  • Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks
  • Enforce general safety practices, policy, standards on‑site
  • Carry out general maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure a safe and tidy work site
  • Assist in setting up and taking down the materials and equipment at job sites
  • Complete all CCOHS training as outlined by company and safety requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Working in this position you will be able to progress into various positions or apprentice into trades there are pathways should you be interested in pursuing more training or experience.

Required Qualifications
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers License and a clear abstract, you will be required to operate company vehicles and mobile equipment
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Knowledge in an industrial setting and awareness of process hazards
  • Be able to work under a comprehensive safety program
  • Computer skills would be an asset
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and ability to work in an industrial setting
  • Reliable transportation, punctuality is key
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 40 pounds etc.)
  • Must be organized, self‑driven, and have ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
  • Good hand‑eye coordination
  • Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus
  • Communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safety rules, policies, and practice
  • Demonstrates and practices “can‑do attitude”
  • Lastly, a good sense of humor will also be a great asset
