As a member of the Municipal Accommodations Division, the Building Servicer 2 – Aquatics works under the supervision of the Foreperson Grade 2 and performs a variety of duties that include operating and repairing equipment, maintaining water quality, performing custodial work related to all aspects of the building’s activities, operating and maintaining various types of tools, completing reports and records, maintaining building inventory, assisting in the training of employees, and responding to customer service requests.
The incumbent practices established procedures in the execution of assigned duties. In the absence of the Pool Foreperson, the incumbent will act in that position as required. Will perform other duties as assigned that fall within the classification.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance on building equipment systems, and repairs as required.
- Perform a variety of custodial duties and general maintenance repairs to building equipment.
- Be responsible for testing and maintaining proper water quality in all pool facilities to meet Manitoba Health regulations.
- Assist in the orientation of fellow employees and maintain cooperative working relations.
- Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Possess a valid 5th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate.
- 4th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate would be an asset.
- Must have one year experience as a Building Servicer 1, in Aquatics preferred.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computers.
- Knowledge in the operation of swimming pool maintenance (vacuuming, water testing, and balancing pool water).
- Knowledge in maintenance procedures of buildings, heating, ventilation, and cooling systems and their components.
- Ability to work independently and organize tasks efficiently.
- Ability to delegate tasks and provide direction to junior staff.
- Ability to deal harmoniously with other staff, building users, and the general public.
- Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of City of Winnipeg safety regulations.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of materials and chemicals related to the position.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience in the operation of power and hand tools, measuring instruments, and power‑operated custodial equipment.
- Knowledge of materials and chemicals and safe handling practices related to the position (WHMIS).
- Ability to orient new staff.
- Mechanical aptitude is desirable.
- Must have, or be able to acquire in a reasonable period of time, a thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions and regulations that are applicable to the position’s area of work.
