Job Summary:
The Inspections and Technical Services branch of the Labour and Immigration Department is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Inspector, Gas and Oil located in Winnipeg. The branch ensures compliance of new and existing gas and oil burning equipment across Manitoba with the requirements of the Department of Labour Act, the Gas and Burners Act, the Steam and Pressure Plants Act, and the Technical Safety Act.

ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Program Manager, the Inspector is responsible for performing field inspections of new and existing gas and oil burning equipment across Manitoba to ensure compliance with the requirements of various provincial legislation and regulations. The position is also responsible for verifying the licensing and certification requirements of trade personnel.
Qualifications Essential- Certification as a commercial and industrial gas fitter ("A" Licence) in the Province of Manitoba or equivalent from another jurisdiction.
- Extensive experience in operation, installation, service, maintenance and/or inspection of gas and oil burning equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply Acts, regulations, codes and standards governing safe installation, operation and inspection of gas and oil burning equipment in Manitoba and Canada.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to write inspection and/or investigation reports.
- Effective decision‑making skills, including exercising judgment and identifying solutions to problems.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities with tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of procedures for conducting inspections and/or investigation techniques.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) or equivalent software programs.
- Certified as a Licensed Oil Fitter ("F" Licence) in the Province of Manitoba.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must provide and maintain satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Must have a valid Class 5 Full Manitoba Driver's Licence or equivalent from another jurisdiction.
- Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to perform physical duties, including working in confined spaces, at heights and within a variance of ambient temperatures.
- Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment.
