Shift Pattern:
Days, Evenings, Weekends — 1430–2300 for 5 days, OFF for 2 days each week.
Salary: $22,512–$26,019 per hour based on experience.
Position Overview:
The Health Care Aide (HCA) supports clients in community settings, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) while promoting independence and comprehensive care.
- Assist clients/patients/residents with ADLs including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and feeding.
- Provide direct personal care and support within established policies, ensuring safety, privacy, and comfort.
- Assist with transfers, ambulation, and use of mobility aids; lift and move patients up to 20 kg.
- Maintain accurate documentation in electronic charting systems.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members.
- Respond to acute changes and maintain vigilance with regard to aggressive or agitated individuals.
- Travel between client homes and support sites as required.
- Minimum Grade 10 education (Manitoba standard).
- Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course.
- Experience caring for individuals with physical or cognitive impairments (preferred).
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable vehicle or willingness to travel year‑round.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Training or competency appropriate to setting.
- Basic computer skills (MS Word, Outlook); experience with electronic charting preferred.
- Strong communication skills (English; French language proficiency preferred).
- Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values is preferred.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and apply critical thinking.
- Possess strength to lift and transfer patients up to 20 kg.
- Stand, transfer, and transport patients for extended periods.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and shift work.
- Travel between client homes throughout the region.
- May encounter aggressive or agitated individuals and potential exposure to disease, blood, body fluids, chemicals, and allergens.
Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check are mandatory. The employee must maintain current security checks within six (6) months of employment start.
