You will play a central role in day‑to‑day operations across the Manitoba Tumour Bank and the Manitoba Research Genomics Platform, supporting high‑impact translational research projects and next‑generation sequencing workflows (Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Prometh
ION). Working under general supervision, you will bring strong hands‑on lab skills, organize and schedule your own work to meet milestones, and help drive quality in wet lab genomics, biobanking, and method implementation.
- Communicate with users; coordinate sample intake and organize submitted biosamples.
- Process liquid and solid biospecimens for storage and downstream cellular/nucleic acid analyses.
- Perform flow cytometry, FACS, MACS, and related biosample separation/analysis workflows.
- Prepare NGS libraries for applications such as RNA‑seq and whole‑genome sequencing.
- Perform QC on nucleic acids and sequencing libraries (e.g., Agilent Tape station or similar).
- Operate next‑generation sequencing instruments, such as Illumina Next Seq 2000.
- Catalogue MTB patient biosamples and associated clinical data; enter records into registries/databases.
- Support platform operations through inventory & ordering, equipment maintenance, billing for users, platform promotion and outreach, and other activities that sustain operations.
- Master’s degree in a related discipline or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of directly related experience; an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR).
- Experience with next‑generation sequencing (library preparation; operation of NGS instruments).
- Experience working with human tumour samples or blood separation.
- Experience with tissue culture, creation and maintenance of 3‑D cultures (tumor spheres, spheroids, organoids, etc.) is an asset.
- Experience with flow cytometry.
- Key technical role within Manitoba’s flagship multi‑omics environment (biobanking + genomics).
