The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Manager of Fire Inspections position. The Office of the Fire Commissioner is a public safety organization that provides province wide leadership in fire prevention, fire safety regulation, fire investigations, emergency response coordination, and the oversight of fire protection programs delivered by local authorities. The Office is part of the Manitoba Government and embedded within the Department of Municipal and Northern Relations.

The Manager of Fire Inspections leads Manitoba’s provincial fire and life safety inspection regime. This position oversees a team of assistant fire commissioners who deliver consistent and effective enforcement of the Manitoba Fire Code, support the adoption of the National Fire Code, and provide technical expertise to local governments, community-based fire inspectors, stakeholders and the public. The Manager ensures operational excellence through guidance, policy interpretation, staff development, and program oversight.
Acting as a key advisor to the Fire Commissioner on the fire code, the position contributes to strategic initiatives that promote public safety, strengthen the provincial fire service, and support community-focused fire prevention objectives.
Essential:
- Post‑secondary education in Fire Protection, Building Sciences, Public Safety or related field, and a certification as a Fire Inspector (NFPA 1031 Level II or equivalent). A combination of related experience, training and education may also be considered.
- Extensive experience in fire code enforcement and provincial inspection programs.
- Supervisory experience managing, including planning, mentoring, and evaluating the work of team members in a work setting.
- Strong knowledge of the Fires Prevention and Emergency Response Act, Manitoba Fire Code, and Manitoba Building Code.
- Excellent written communication skills including experience writing a variety of documents.
- Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to make formal and informal presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of people by building rapport and resolving conflict as required.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) or similar software applications and proficiency with inspection management systems.

- Experience in municipal government or large urban fire services.
- Experience providing instruction or training in adult learning environments.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must be willing and able to work extended hours, including holidays, evenings and weekends as required.
