IntroductionThe Department of Education and Early Childhood Learning is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Investigator.

DutiesWorking under the authority of The Education Administration Act and in accordance with established rules of practice and procedure, the incumbent reviews and triages reports and complaints to the Commissioner of Teacher Professional Conduct and conducts investigations that fall within the Commissioner’s jurisdiction.
The incumbent acts as the principal investigator to conduct complex investigations into allegations of teacher misconduct and incompetence. This includes triage, assessment and prioritization of allegations, investigation planning, execution and independent development of findings.
Qualifications- Post-secondary education in social sciences, law, human resources, or related discipline and work experience leading complex and sensitive investigations. An equivalent combination of education, training and extensive related work experience may also be considered.
- Work experience conducting in-depth investigations and investigative interviews, including expert knowledge of investigation best practices and rules of evidence, preferably with experience conducting investigations involving allegations of sexual, physical, and/or emotional abuse or mistreatment.
- Experience interpreting and applying policy, regulations and/or legislation preferably related to investigations such as The Education Administration Act, The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, etc.
- Work experience working with vulnerable populations and detailed knowledge of trauma informed practices as they relate to investigations.
- Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with various parties such as legal counsel, personnel of various government departments, and sector partners, including school divisions and other employers of certified teachers, and the ability to navigate sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
- Strong organizational skills to manage complex and competing priorities with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
