As a Tribunal Hearing Officer, you’ll be the backbone of three key Tribunals—the Municipal Board, Disaster Assistance Appeal Board, and Land Value Appraisal Commission—ensuring hearings run smoothly, fairly, and on time.
Duties- Be at the heart of the action—supporting panels before, during, and after hearings.
- Travel across Manitoba to handle diverse and meaningful cases.
- Manage complexity with confidence—organising large volumes of legal documents and hearing materials.
- Drive excellence in process and decision‑making, helping maintain integrity and fairness in every proceeding.
We’re looking for someone with a strong organisational background—ideally with experience as a legal secretary—who thrives in a fast‑paced, detail‑oriented environment. Qualifications- Post‑secondary education or training in paralegal, court or office administration. A combination of education, training and related experience may be considered.
- Experience interpreting, analysing, and applying various legislation, regulations, policies and rules of procedure in an adjudicative environment.
- Excellent written communication skills with experience drafting, reviewing, and editing complex documentation for internal and external stakeholders in compliance with applicable legislation, policies, and rules of procedure.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills with experience prioritising tasks effectively to meet statutory, departmental, and tribunal‑imposed deadlines.
- Ability to apply sound judgment and exercise problem‑solving skills to handle non‑routine issues.
- Excellent verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and professionally with Tribunal members, stakeholders, and to speak confidently before a large audience.
- Superior attention to detail to work efficiently with a high level of quality and accuracy.
- Ability to manage confidential and politically sensitive material in an appropriate and professional manner.
- Extensive experience providing analytical and administrative support for quasi‑judicial hearings in a busy, fast‑paced office environment.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) or compatible programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships and interact effectively with team members, clients, and the general public.
- Experience managing and processing cash transactions.
- Experience working with an adjudicative or quasi‑judicial body, board, commission, or a legal firm or provincial or federal Department of Justice.
- Experience interacting and liaising effectively with the public, legal professionals, municipal officials, and other stakeholders.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Must be able to provide a satisfactory driver's abstract.
- Must be willing and able to travel within the City of Winnipeg and throughout Province of Manitoba with some occasional overnight stays, as required.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime, as required.
- Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5F Driver’s Licence.
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment that weighs up to 65 lbs (29.5 kgs).
