Weatherlogics Inc. is seeking multiple part-time meteorologists to assist with the preparation of weather forecasts. These positions will primarily involve the preparation of fire weather forecasts and fire weather briefings, but other types of forecasting are also possible. While the preparation of weather forecasts will be the meteorologist’s primary duty, there may be opportunities to work on other special meteorological projects.
These positions will initially be temporary and part-time, between April and September 2026.
There may be opportunities for the positions to be extended, or hours increased, depending on Weatherlogics’ future business needs.
Description of Position- Preparation of weather forecasts:
- Analyze current meteorological conditions using surface and upper-air charts.
- Diagnose the causes of current meteorological conditions using analysis data and numerical weather prediction models.
- Produce short, medium, and long-term written and quantitative weather forecasts for locations in Canada related to fire weather, agriculture, and other sectors.
- Enter forecast data into meteorological systems.
- Provide weather briefings to clients.
- Opportunities may exist to assist with special meteorological projects:
- Help to write scientific programs using python that can be used to visualize or analyze data.
- Use meteorological skills and experience to provide customized meteorological information to clients.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex issues using simple language.
- Willingness to continually learn new concepts and methods.
- Calm under pressure or in stressful situations.
- Comfortable using computers and new technologies.
- Excellent knowledge of meteorology in Canada.
The successful applicant must meet or exceed the following requirements. Unfortunately, applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be considered for this position:
- Hold, at minimum, a
B.Sc. with specialization in atmospheric science/meteorology. The degree program must include completed courses on the following topics:- Atmospheric thermodynamics, dynamics, and synoptic meteorology.
- A minimum of three years of meteorological forecasting experience.
- Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada.
- Strong knowledge of common computer applications such as video conferencing platforms (e.g. Zoom) and Microsoft Office 365.
The following are not required for this position, but will enhance your application:
- Knowledge of wildfire behaviour and the boreal ecosystem.
- Advanced computing knowledge, especially Microsoft Office 365.
- Knowledge of scientific programming – e.g. python.
- Knowledge of fire weather forecasting.
- Knowledge of UNIX environment(s).
