The Traffic Signals Electronic Technologist, under the supervision of the Senior Technologist, works mainly independently on the design, construction, installation, maintenance and manufacturing of various Traffic Signal electrical / electronic and microcomputer controllers and devices. Approximately half of the time is spent in the shop (Traffic Lab) with the remainder of time spent in the field at the various intersections throughout the city.
The Traffic Signals Electronic Technologist is required to develop a highly skilled knowledge base of the many and various, specialized equipment within the Traffic Signal industry. Equipment often has to be modified or manufactured to conform to the City’s mode of operation. A good working knowledge of electrical and electronic theory as well as that of all safety procedures is required to be able to perform such modifications, which can often occur in the field during emergency response situations.
During non-regular work hours, the Technologist may be required to provide maintenance work as First Responder, assemble, build equipment, create temporary controller timings and configurations, as well as making modifications to the control circuits and field wiring.
As the Traffic Signals Electronic Technologist you will:
- Design, construction, installation and maintenance of various Traffic Signals equipment
- Provide emergency response to Traffic Signal trouble calls
