This position is at the L06 level with an hourly pay range of $35.94 to $45.47 (PSAC Bargaining Unit).

Description

Reporting to the Director, First Nations Health Programs (FNHP), the Cultural Safety Education Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating and delivering educational programs to improve cultural competence among Yukon Hospital Corporation employees, students, and partners. The incumbent, in collaboration with First Nations Health Programs Director and staff, Elders, Hospitals’ Leadership, Nursing Education Team, and Organizational Development, is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the delivery of cultural safety and anti-indigenous racism training.

Responsibilities

A University degree or College diploma/certificate in Education or Adult Education, Certificate, diploma or degree Native Studies or Cultural Safety and three to five (3-5) years experience teaching or facilitating group sessions. A combination of education, training/experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Knowledge of the historical and contemporary issues facing First Nations.
  • Knowledge of customs, beliefs and traditions, and the diversity within and among communities.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of adult learning principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of present and emerging education delivery models.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate education programs within a health care organization, including needs assessments, training techniques and course development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Critical thinking and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (report writing and presentations).
  • Good research skills to ensure content and methods are appropriate and excellent.
  • Ability to plan programs, develop curriculum and create lesson plans.
  • Ability to set goals, manage projects and meet deadlines under pressure and with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
Education and experience

A University degree or College diploma/certificate in Education or Adult Education, Certificate, diploma or degree Native Studies or Cultural Safety and three to five (3-5) year’s experience teaching or facilitating group sessions. A combination of education, training/experience may be considered. A Master’s degree in Education or Adult Education is desired.
