ICI Radio‑Canada Manitoba seeks a cross‑platform video journalist based in Winnipeg. The primary working language is French. Your responsibilities include developing a digital content offering and producing stories for television, radio, and digital platforms.
Key Tasks- Develop and maintain contacts with a variety of sources to stay current on issues and events relevant to the coverage area.
- Gather information from diverse sources.
- Be knowledgeable about topics that engage young francophones and francophiles across the province.
- Analyze facts and information gathered, draw conclusions, and identify issues requiring further investigation.
- Arrange for and conduct interviews.
- Decide which elements should be included in an item, their order, length, and sequence, and determine transitions between elements.
- Develop shot lists and sequences that contribute to the focus and mood of the story.
- Prepare, align, set up, and operate an ENG/EFP unit, smartphone, and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal audio, video, and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
- Understand digital media and consumption patterns of digital users.
- Light the subject or scene, compose program visual material using a handheld camera, and ensure that the material meets technical and aesthetic requirements for editing.
- Deliver all recorded materials, including shot lists and sequences.
- Edit recorded items with available editing systems.
- Prepare and write scripts, continuity notes, and headlines.
- Report the story on camera or in voice‑over form.
- Be flexible to work regularly across television, radio, and/or digital platforms.
- Drive a motor vehicle as required by the job.
- Education and experience equivalent to a university degree plus three years of practical, relevant experience; or community college diploma plus five years of experience.
- Excellent writing, storytelling, and interviewing skills on both digital and broadcast media.
- Comfort with live reporting.
- Bilingualism (English and French) required.
- Knowledge of Manitoba, local and Franco‑Manitoban communities, provincial politics, and related issues an asset.
- Sensitivity to Canada’s French‑speaking communities.
- Knowledge of CBC/Radio‑Canada journalistic and programming policies.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and be a strong self‑starter.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Proven ability to work in a high‑stress, tight‑deadline environment.
- Experience managing multiple stories simultaneously.
- Understanding of the public broadcaster’s role and responsibilities.
- Familiarity with in‑house production tools (Dalet, Media Central, iNEWS, Scoop, and Hindenburg) an asset.
- Experience as a video journalist an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and a driving record that meets CBC/Radio‑Canada’s insurance requirements.
