Senior AccountantPosition Overview
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing all accounting, reporting, and control activities related to inventory within a manufacturing and wholesaling environment. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, advanced Excel capabilities, and the ability to consolidate, reconcile, and analyze data from multiple sources. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment where they support existing routines while continuously identifying and implementing process and system improvements.
InventoryAccounting & Controls
- Oversee the complete inventory accounting cycle for a manufacturing and wholesale business, ensuring accuracy and integrity of data.
- Lead, coordinate, and participate in physical inventory counts and cycle counts, including reconciliation of variances.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies in collaboration with operations, warehouse, and supply chain teams.
- Ensure accurate Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) calculations and related accounting entries.
- Develop, document, and maintain inventory control procedures.
- Prepare, analyze, and review monthly financial results, including variance analysis and adjusting journal entries.
- Build and maintain recurring operational and management-level reports.
- Analyze inventory turnover, margins, manufacturing variances, and profitability trends to support decision-making.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis related to inventory, manufacturing, and operations.
- Develop strong knowledge of accounting systems, and manufacturing modules; assist in optimizing system use and functionality.
- Support existing accounting and reporting processes while exploring opportunities for efficiency and automation.
- Design, implement, and refine inventory-related workflows, controls, and reporting tools.
- Strengthen internal controls related to inventory, costing, and financial reporting.
- Partner with operations, supply chain, and IT to improve data accuracy, process alignment, and reporting efficiency.
- Lead or contribute to process documentation, SOP development, and standardization initiatives.
- Support ERP enhancements, upgrades, and system integrations impacting inventory and costing.
Technical
Skills:
- Advanced Excel skills (XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, Pivot Tables, data consolidation)
- Strong aptitude for learning new accounting and ERP systems
- Experience with inventory modules in a manufacturing environment is an asset
Education & Experience:
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Progress toward CPA designation is an asset but not required
- 4–7 years of accounting experience, ideally in inventory-heavy industries
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to reconcile complex datasets
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Hybrid role with a requirement to work in Argyle, MB office at least twice per week.
- Periodic travel within Canada for inventory counts or operational support.
