RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Essential Duties
The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher will provide direct instruction and consultative services to preschool students eligible for special education. The teacher will collaborate with staff, families, and related service providers to support the development of social, emotional, communication, and academic skills for young children.
Primary Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students in preschool settings.
* Deliver high-quality, evidence-based early childhood special education instruction, including differentiated and developmentally appropriate strategies.
* Collaborate with preschool staff, related service providers, and families to ensure alignment of educational goals across settings.
* Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
* Support preschool staff in adapting curriculum, strategies, and environments to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
* Participate in eligibility, IEP, and progress monitoring meetings, providing input on student performance and needs.
* Develop materials and resources for teachers, paraprofessionals, and families to support student learning and skill generalization.
* Engage families as active partners in their child's education by providing guidance, strategies, and training.
* Promote social-emotional development, self-help skills, and positive behavior support strategies in classroom and community settings.
* Travel among neighborhood preschool sites as needed to deliver services and support staff.
* Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, service delivery, and compliance with district and state special education requirements.
* Participate in professional learning and district initiatives as directed.
Skills/Competencies
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational documents, reports, and assessment data.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with families, staff, and administrators.
* Ability to collaborate with educators, related service providers, and families to implement developmentally appropriate interventions.
* Ability to perform essential duties within district and special education policies and regulations.
* Ability to adapt instruction and services to meet the diverse needs of students.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs other duties as directed by the Director of Early Childhood Services, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, Equity & Inclusion, Director, and Assistant Director of Student Services, Equity & Inclusion
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/ QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
* Certification:
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Early Childhood Special Education endorsement required.
* Education:
Master's degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field preferred.
* Experience:
* Required:
Minimum of 1-3 years of teaching experience with preschool-aged students with disabilities.
* Preferred:
Experience in inclusive or community preschool settings.
* Clearance of FBI Background check required;
Successful completion of Faith's Law/EHR requirements.
* TB test within 90 days of hire date;
Physical Exam within the last year of hire date.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
* Manual Dexterity:
Work requires skilled and accurate physical operations, including manipulating instructional materials.
* Physical Effort:
Work may require handling average-weight materials or equipment, including assisting students with mobility needs.
* Working Conditions:
Travel among neighborhood preschools is required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and fringe benefits will be determined by the Winnetka Professional Agreement
