Position

Industrial Hygiene Technician – Turquoise Ridge mine site. The Industrial Hygiene Technician will collect Industrial Hygiene samples in accordance with established procedures/guidelines, provide support for day-to-day Industrial Hygiene activities, and follow established guidelines to ensure protection of employees’ health.

Responsibilities
  • Learn the agents sampled & NMG’s limits. Understand the various agents and their permissible limits.
  • Sampling equipment/procedure: familiarize yourself with the equipment and procedures for each agent.
  • Become skilled and proficient in sampling various agents, reporting, and measuring exposures.
  • Complete data entry into Cority, upload lab requisitions, and other documents required to be maintained by NGM and MSHA.
  • Manage sampling media: ordering, maintaining stock levels, shipping and receiving from warehouse.
  • Calibrate equipment and complete the calibration process for all sampling equipment.
  • Execute air sampling procedures, including pre-calibration and post-calibration.
  • Navigate dosimeter software for setting up and calibrating noise samples.
  • Conduct sampling independently while maintaining equipment cleanliness and proper storage.
  • Assist in sending equipment for calibration and repairs.
  • Communicate and notify department supervisors of completed sample events and results.
  • Complete exposure letters to be distributed to employees.
  • Learn gas detection system (iNET), monitor various mine gases, maintain stock levels, and ensure gas monitors and crib lockers are functional.
  • Maintain equipment calibration records and keep all documentation up to date.
  • Understand the Cority system. Know the purpose and the information collected for Industrial Hygiene.
  • Upload documentation into SharePoint with correct file names.
  • Understand the procedures of biological sampling; know locations of sampling fridges and when to send out biological samples.
  • Fill out manifests, create labels, ship, and be able to send out calendar invites and communicate with division of sample plan.
  • Assist with rotating schedule for new hire training and annual refresher training.
  • Follow our standards, policies, and procedures for Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Achieve daily tasks/goals with the mindset to achieve the annual sample plan.
  • Assist and support weekly safety meetings and attend monthly safety meetings as required.
  • Support care and custody of sampling equipment expectations with crew members and hold ourselves accountable to meet those expectations.
  • Complete each task in a timely manner and be willing to adjust based on feedback regarding sampling plans and schedules.
  • Maintain honest and transparent communication with frontline staff and supervisor.
  • Daily check-in with direct supervisor to discuss weekly plans, roadblocks, and support needed to achieve plan.
  • Communicate and notify supervisor of any IH-related issues that arise.
Qualifications
  • Ability to gain CAOHC certification within 3 months (required).
  • Proven safe work record (required).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills (required).
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (required).
  • Ability to manage multiple complex systems and tasks with minimal oversight (required).
  • One (1) year experience in the mining industry preferred.
  • Current CAOHC Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of 30 CFR Part 62 preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently (required).
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a courteous and customer-service focus (required).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (required).
  • Ability to multi-task, self-manage and self-motivate (required).
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these standards (preferred).
