About the Role
We are thrilled to announce an opportunity for a Manager - SHES within the Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals team. In this pivotal role, you will ensure a safe and compliant workplace by developing and implementing policies, procedures, and programs related to Safety, Health, Environment, and Security regulations. You will lead a team focused on continuous improvement, compliance assurance, and risk reduction.
What You Will Be Doing
Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment:
- Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards.
- Develop and implement inspection procedures and schedules.
- Continuously evaluate SHES programs to identify gaps and enhance existing platforms.
- Lead relevant Risk Assessment activities onsite.
- Coordinate validations of new or modified equipment and processes.
Policy Development and Implementation:
- Create SHES procedures that comply with Orica policies and industry standards.
- Ensure all employees are aware of and adhere to SHES protocols.
- Manage the site Process Safety Management program.
Training and Education:
- Prepare SHES training schedules covering emergency protocols and workplace safety.
- Promote a safety culture through effective communication.
- Conduct SHES briefings to reinforce safety messages.
- Collaborate with facilitators to identify hazards and eliminate unsafe conditions.
Incident Investigation and Analysis:
- Participate in incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents and SHES performance.
Compliance and Enforcement:
- Lead recertification efforts for Orica-Cyanco ICMC/ICMI.
- Maintain permit registries and ensure compliance with SHES regulations.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments.
- Ensure timely site reporting in line with company and regulatory requirements.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Effectively communicate SHES matters with management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other departments to address SHES concerns.
- Work with Global Environmental and Sustainability teams on waste management and sustainable practices.
Data Collection and Analysis:
- Collect and analyze SHES performance data to identify trends.
- Prepare reports and presentations on SHES performance.
- Monitor the impact of the SHES Management System and lead overall SHES performance.
What You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Preferred CSP designation or capability to obtain external Safety certifications.
- 2 years of SHES Management experience required; 4 years preferred.
- Relevant experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or refining industry.
- Strong Process Safety Management background (OSHA).
- Knowledge of Risk Management Plans (EPA) and Homeland Security requirements (DHS) preferred.
Role Dimensions
- Reports to:
Head of SHES - Specialty Mining Chemicals - 3-5 Direct Reports
- Less than 25% Travel
- Onsite Full-time, with occasional night shift/weekend work
- On Call 24/7

- Experience in incident reporting and investigation.
- Ability to build relationships and engage diverse stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power Bi).
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
