Overview

The salary range for this position is $18.40 - $27.59 (Hourly Rate). Placement within the range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

The Patient Access Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NMHC, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

3:30pm – 12:00am

Responsibilities
  • Consistently practices Patients First philosophy and high standards of customer service; fosters a team atmosphere.
  • Responds to questions and concerns.
  • Forwards, directs, and notifies Team Lead or Operations Coordinator of extraordinary issues as necessary.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to patients and establishes a positive first impression.
  • Exceeds consumer requests and escalates issues when needed.
  • Accurately identifies and collects patient demographic information per organization standards.
  • Interacts with hospital departments and physician offices to schedule and guide patients through NMHC systems.
  • Schedules appointments and communicates options if an appointment fails.
  • Performs medical necessity checks for scheduled services and communicates options to patients.
  • Informs patients of issues with securing the financial account for their encounter; completes out-of-pocket estimations as requested.
  • Provides training and education as needed.
  • Manages work schedule efficiently and completes tasks on time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned; cross-training to ensure coverage.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance reviews to ensure integrity of patient data information.
  • Uses effective service recovery skills to resolve problems or service breakdowns.
  • Follows department policies and compliance requirements; avoids placing patients in financial or safety risk.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Communication And Collaboration
  • Communicates information to patients about questions regarding physician referrals, insurance referrals, and consultations.
  • Collects authorization numbers in appropriate systems as applicable.
  • Provides a professional environment for communication across units/departments and resolves operational issues.
  • May attend intra/interdepartmental meetings which involve walking on campus.
  • Communicates customer satisfaction issues to appropriate individuals.
