Tractor Tech Trainee

Job Summary

Under close supervision, this position is responsible for gaining foundational knowledge of tools, equipment, shop safety, and J.B. Hunt Shop rules, policies, and procedures. The incumbent will learn to become efficient in, but not limited to, Air Break Systems, FHWA Inspections and the general repairs associated with them. This position may involve outdoor work, exposure to the elements, and multiple shifts including nights and weekends in addition to overtime.

Full‑time attendance is required.

• Shadow a senior team member to learn repairs to company and manufacturer specifications, complete work orders, and train to meet approved standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
• Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures.
• Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers at all times.
• Train to become efficient in routine preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and basic repair related to air brake systems and FHWA Inspections.

• 18 years of age; willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, and across multiple shifts including nights and weekends when needed.
• Preferred:
  High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively.
• Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move equipment up to 50 pounds).
• Ability to multitask.
• Ability to read documents and/or information in English.
• Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic active listening skills.
• Basic computer skills and/or comfort working with a computer.
• Basic deductive reasoning skills.
• Basic organizational skills.
• Basic time‑management skills.
• Self‑motivation.

The expected pay for this position is $19.00 per hour.

This position is not eligible for employment‑based sponsorship.

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. The position may be eligible for an annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes, in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.

The Company offers the following benefits for full‑time positions, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: medical benefit, dental benefit, vision benefit, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability coverage, paid time off commensurate with tenure (includes vacation and sick time), two weeks of paid parental leave, and six paid holidays annually.
