Our headquarters in Kingsville, ON is currently seeking a Supplier Program and Food Safety Coordinator to join our Food Safety team! The position will assist the Supplier Food Safety Manager with the vendor approval process, developing program documentation and tools to help in improving the food safety programs within the company. This role will also act as the backup for the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager at the Kingsville, ON distribution center when required.

This will include supporting the monitoring activities of the food safety program, communication and follow-up on FSS policies, procedures and documentation while coordinating the resolution of specific policy-related and procedural problems and incidents.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Supplier Food Safety Manager in approving vendors, gathering documentation, working with growers and vendors to retrieve the needed information
  • This role will act as the back-up for the Supplier Food Safety This will include overseeing all activities related to vendor approval.
  • This role will be trained as the back up to help oversee the food safety program at our Kingsville, ON distribution center. That includes ability to oversee all aspects of the food safety program at this facility and to help assist the team at the DC as needed.
  • Assist in obtaining documentation from various suppliers, including those of produce, packaging materials, agricultural inputs, ingredient vendors, specifications and other items, and maintain a registry of all documents provided.
  • Maintain Vendor registry, databases, record keeping and filling programs, and filling of non-compliance
  • Work with suppliers and collect the appropriate corrective action documentation when deficiencies occur.
  • Assis to evaluate all required documents received from growers or vendors and perform a risk assessment
  • Act as part of the traceability and recall team as needed and assigned
  • Helping to maintain and develop KPI related to grower and vendors Food Safety Approvals
  • Corrective Action and Preventative Measures – assist with logging and tracking of non-compliances and FSS incidences, do investigations, coordinate follow-up and bring outstanding issues to closure.
  • Assist the Manager when necessary in providing advice and assistance with development and implementation of FSS policies, procedures and documentation.
  • Provide FSS Training when required – assist in development of training programs, conduct training classes, maintain training records.
  • GMP – assist in development of rules, conduct audits, maintain records.
  • Audits – participate in third-party, government, customer – assist with audit preparation, organization and follow-up as necessary.
  • Conduct routine inspections of internal food safety program, product specifications and organics program.

  • Education/Background Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related field in preferred a minimum of 2-year experience in the food industry
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint), including data input
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.
